Welcome to DowneU3A.

New members are very welcome, just check the calendar for our next monthly meeting (Monday 30th January at 10am in Downpatrick Golf Club) and come along. So far this autumn our speakers have been the Fermanagh poet Kevin Quinn who gave us a Tour of Ireland in Poetry in September and Finbar McCormick who gave us a fascinating insight into the history of holy wells and in particular Struell Wells. The November meeting was dedicated to Christmas goodies with food being discussed by Patricia Mc Clean and festive punch by Raymond Crea. In January the speaker will be Mairead Mc Allister on the history of ladies and gents underwear.

Check the list of groups on the right hand side to see what you might enjoy (click each title for more details). If your special interest is not there come along and find others with similar ideas. We have recently started new groups -- concerts, daytime bridge and hill walking -- and others will emerge as new members join. For more information e-mail info@downeu3a.eu , leave a phone number and we will contact you.

What is a U3A?

U3A stands for University of the Third Age. It is a collective of older people which enables members to share many educational, creative and leisure activities. Anyone in the Third Age can join a U3A provided they are no longer in full time employment. There are currently more than 760 U3As in the UK with over 250,000 members, 20 in Northern Ireland with 4,000 members. For an idea of what U3As are about check an Australian video on What is U3A

Downe U3A

There are now over 150 members of Downe U3A -- check the photo gallery to see who you know.

There is a monthly meeting, in Downpatrick Golf Club, generally on the last Monday of each month, with a guest speaker followed by a discussion of the events being planned. Most of these groups have between 10 and 20 members and new members soon get to know a wide group of people with similar interests.
